Deep sockets are for recessed fasteners at the bottom of a well. Spark plug sockets have thinner sidewalls and some have magnets to help with retrieval.

• Stop assemblies moving.

• Lever a shaft out of a tube.

• Buy a set with all the standard sizes.

• Cheap ones will bend or fracture.

• Always wear eye protection.

• Consider impact protecting gloves.
